The Child Ballads have provided me with a lot of starter yeast for Daisy House songs (2 on this record). They led me to this poem by George Pope Morris who knocked this out in the early 19th century...

I rejiggered this one BEFORE the Trayvon Martin murder trial and the whole "stand your ground" controversy that surrounded it.
For me the theme here is again "tradition", in this case American traditions of resistance against government overreach and tyranny.
Ever since 9/11 and the illegal Iraq war (which is re-unraveling before our eyes as I type this), the Banker bailouts of 2009, the revelations of domestic spying on americans, the torture of prisoners in Guantanamo, the full body scanners, the exploding prison population (in corporat run prisons no less) the fudging of economic and Inflation statistics, the militarization of domestic police departments, our latest military adventures throughout the Middle East and Ukraine (WE started that mess, not Putin) I no longer believe ANYTHING coming out of the u.s. government, from the "Left" or the "Right"...Yet, amazingly, there is still no large scale populist movement against the corrupt status quo in this country........yet.
